Women may be in the minority on the UK’s mountain bike trails but with more of us taking to the sport each year, there’s a growing community of like-minded ladies who are looking to push themselves further. What: Specialist skills sessions
This lift-assisted singletrack park runs a rolling series of female-only sessions, with something for every ability. Beginners start with ‘Park Essentials & Core Skills’; ‘Drop Zone’ helps you to tackle, err, drops; and ‘Jump Starter’ gets you more air. The park also runs a ‘Women’s Weekend’ every October.

Learn how to ride like 4X World Champ Katy Curd. Katy coaches all levels, whether you’re into XC, enduro, downhill, or leisurely weekend rides. This year, she has several fixed dates for her ladies-only sessions at PedalAway bike centre, or she can arrange private sessions to suit you.

What: Back to Basics or Singletrack Skills
You’re in good hands with this female-run company of avid bikers. If you’re a novice who keeps your finger on the brakes and your bum on saddle then ‘Back to Basics’ will soon have you riding over roots. If you’re beyond that, choose ‘Singletrack Skills’ for cornering, speed and drop-off techniques.

What: Coaching on demand
Available on request, mountain bike fanatic Al Bowker offers personalised ladies-only training. In groups of up to six (three minimum) you can choose between a choice of venues that include trail centres like Lee & Cragg Quarry, Gisburn Forest and Clayton Vale; or natural trails in the woods, mountains and moors.
